Cathy Roberts, Ph.D. P.E.

Dr. Roberts currently serves ECPI College of Technology as the Assistant Dean for Computer and Information Science. She also is the Department Head for the Database Programming, Simulation and Game Programming, Web Development, and Information Technology programs at the Newport News campus of ECPI; and she performs instructional duties in these program areas as well.
Dr. Roberts has been at ECPI's Newport News campus since May 2005. Before starting her career there, she held various positions in industry, academia, and government. Most recently, she served as an IT project manager and contract principal for the Research, Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering contract at NASA Langley. Dr. Roberts was also senior analyst for Wyle Laboratories, where she worked on software architecture and software safety projects for their dynamic flight simulator contract with the Ministry of Defence in the UK. She has designed and developed real-time software control systems for safely positioning multi-million dollar aircraft models in NASA wind tunnels. Prior to her current teaching duties at ECPI, she also taught computer science at the University of Virginia's College at Wise and at Christopher Newport University.
Dr. Roberts earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from Old Dominion University in 1998 and her M.S. degree in Computer Science from Old Dominion University in 1992. She received a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from Virginia Tech in 1983, and is a registered Professional Engineer in Virginia.
