I've made a few more changes to this site. My hope is that they are barely perceptible. I still like the idea of a layout inspired by print design, but I'm trying to spice it up just a little bit.
First of all, behind the scenes I have switched over to Dreamweaver. Until recently I was just coding stuff by hand. Then briefly I used GoLive (it was included in my CS2 package). Anyway, I was really looking forward to using Dreamweaver, since I have been hearing good things about it for a long time. I've got to say though, for my purposes, it is a pretty mixed bag. It is very nice to be able to move files around and have the program automatically scan through and correct all links. And the in-program markup validation is also really nice. But the file management for the site is a huge nuisance. I am finding that it takes real concentration to keep the local version and the server version of the site in sync. To make matters worse, at one point I foolishly turned on version control, and am still suffering from that poor decision. I read online that the next version of Dreamweaver is getting a major rewrite. Here's hoping they address some of these site management issues. Some of the modal dialogue boxes are like something out of 1998.
The other change is that I actually have implemented some small amount of Flash on the pages. The banner on the main page and the top corner square on each subsequent page are set to gradually change in tint over the course of the day. Of course as soon as I do this I start reading more and more comments about people just disabling Flash to block all the annoying banner ads. I'm hoping that I have it all set up so it just defaults back to the standard blue hue for people without Flash.
