Open Source Forum
The open source discussion was originally developed as a component of a larger discussion on technology and entrepreneurship. It has been written for an audience consisting of both technically savvy persons as well as others.
First, we introduce several key topics focusing on theoretical concerns, technical concerns, and implementation concerns of open source software.
Second, we will host a "show and tell" portion showing several different distros, dual-booting, highlighting the flexibility of look and feel, and comparing capabilities with more popularly familiar software (i.e. Windows products).
Here is the outline for our discussion: (some unavoidable overlap of topics is present)
I.i Theoretical Concerns
I.ii. Technical Concerns
- Using Open Source
- Why struggle with DRM?
I.iii Implementation Concerns
- Available Software
- How we use open source
- Who uses open source? Everybody. (scientists, businesses, universities, etc.)
- Cost Comparisons
II. Show and Tell
- Explore Multiple Distributions
- Give away some Linux distributions and some CDs with open source software for Windows.
